2019 Craggy Range Le Sol Syrah
Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.
What The Critics Say
99/100 and rated #1 of 2019 Shiraz Tasted from Hawkes Bay by Bob Campbell MW
"Dense, intense and complex syrah that combines power and finesse. A deep, dark wine with a heady perfume and dark berry, plum, violet and pepper-spice flavours. Clearly a wine worth cellaring, although it is deliciously drinkable now. 16 MAR 2021." Drink 2020 - 2039
94+/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh
"Plenty of perfume, a whole lot of grilled meat, pepper, and toasty oak. Black fruit, dense shale like chewy tannin, earth and coffee grounds, fresh blackberry acidity, black olive rolled in dried herb, gritty tannin on a finish of good length. Very coiled up and elemental. Needs at least five years before revealing itself." Drink 2025 - 2033+
