Craggy Range always produce an excellent Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay and last vintage it came top in Cuisine's 2019 Chardonnay Tasting. This vintage should be even better as 2019 was a cracker. All the ingredients are there for consistency -- quality vineyard site, their own winery, top winemaking and viticulture and of course a well funded outfit. They never fail to deliver and this Chardie shows all those mealy, savoury nutty characters underpinned with stylish refined oak. Top flight for the price.

Its Origins

Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.

What The Critics Say

5 Stars & Number 1, Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting (2018 vintage)

"Spicy, floral and lightly toasted aromas open to flavours of ripe nectarine and red apple with softly integrated nutty oak. Layered with generous warm fruit which is expertly balanced with fine acidity, this results in a wine that demands attention."

95/100 Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier (2017 vintage)

"White core of baked stonefruit and grapefruit aromas; soft floral and vanilla wood scent, some baked goods with a creme patiserie suggestion; dry stone and sandy soil layer. Bold and expressive textures with spice, acidity and wood tones all strong; dry on the finish with echoes of the flavours described.
