En Primeur product: order now for arrival mid 2022. Under the ongoing ownership of the Garcin Family, Clos L'Eglise is making a successful transition from the influence of Michel Rolland to that of a new consultant, Thomas Duclos, who is keeping the impossibly lush black fruits and florals while introducing a "structural intensity" and deeper, more inward power. With rock-solid bones and plenty of gorgeous flesh, the Clos L'Eglise is a delicious prospect for the moderately patient. To remove foreign exchange risk for our customers, listed prices are all up final landed cost including GST. Payment is due on invoice/order placement, with delivery in mid 2022.

70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon

Its Origins

"Pomerol - owned by S.Garcin-Cathiard, this 6 ha property produces on average 2,800 cases per year. Located in the centre-east of the Pomerol appellation, next to Ch.Clinet, the property shares a similar climate to that enjoyed by both St.Emilion & Pomerol: more continental than the maritime Médoc with generally more spring rainfall, though less in summer & winter. Its vineyards (Merlot 57%; Cabernet Franc 36%; Cabernet Sauvignon 7%) lie on sandy-gravel topsoils, underpinned by a hard-pan clay subsoil. Fermentation in wooden vats before 24 months of maturation in new oak barrels." (BBR)

What The Critics Say

94-96/100 Vinous, Neal Martin

"The 2019 Clos l'Eglise offers ripe black cherries, wild strawberry, hints of liquorice and marmalade on the nose, well-defined, quite extravagant but not excessive. It reflects the growing season. The palate is sweet and caressing in texture on the entry thanks to the saturated tannins. Good depth here, that liquorice note reappearing towards the finish that exerts a gentle grip, then delivers a long spicy aftertaste. Great potential, a Pomerol that should give 20-30 years of drinking pleasure." Drink 2024 - 2045

95-97/100 The Wine Cellar Insider, Jeff Leve

Black and blue fruit, dark, bitter chocolate, flowers, smoke, cherries, plums, wet earth and forest floor aromatics open the perfume. But it is on the palate where the wine really rocks with its layers of concentrated, rich, opulent, sex bomb textured fruits. The finish packs a punch with its chocolate-covered, dark red, silky pit fruits. The wine was made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, reaching 14.5% alcohol."

93-95/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2019 Clos de l’Église is a wine of power, but also reserve. It is the most reticent of Hélène Garcin's 2019. Beams of tannin give the 2019 a feeling of real gravitas and brooding intensity. Blackberry jam, new oak, licorice and chocolate add to the wine's dark, inward personality. Readers will have to be patient. — Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and Patrice Lévêque turned out a gorgeous set of 2019s. The wines are deep, ample and so expressive."
