2019 Callejo Flores de Callejo

Grape
Tempranillo
Its Origins
The Callejo family owns 60 hectares of low yielding Tempranillo vines (Tinto Fino as it is known in Ribera del Duero) ranging in age from 25-70 years. Felix Callejo uses grapes from its Estate only. The grapes are carefully selected and hand picked into small cases of 30 pounds. Carried in small quantities, there is no danger of having the grape skins break and sparking an undesired premature fermentation. The crates are taken directly to the winery, where they go through two selection tables, the second one selecting grape by grape and discarding any imperfect grapes.
What The Critics Say
90/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds (2012 vintage)
"Bright violet color. Pungent aromas of cherry compote, blackberry and succulent herbs, with a subtle potpourri nuance building as the wine opens. Juicy, concentrated and expansive, offering bitter cherry and licorice pastille flavors and a hint of allspice. Silky tannins give shape to the clinging, smoky finish, with the licorice note echoing. (Aged for six months in French oak)."
