2019 Artadi (Artazu) San Martin Grenache

Grape
Garnacha/Grenache
Its Origins
This is the first vintage that Artadi have produced this wine and they wanted to over deliver on it in a big way. Produced from 13 hectares of fairly old vines (35 years old) they have purchased in the village of Martin de Unx in the Navarra region, close to Rioja. "Produced to show the personality of a unique Garnacha and the wine tradition rooted in this medieval village. 35 year-old vineyards placed on a slope at more than 600 meters of altitude, in a winemaking region with great Pyrenean influence. A vibrant and fruity wine, with soft and fresh tannins. It's a wine full of power and authenticity."
What The Critics Say
93/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Luis Gutierrez
"The 2019 Pasos de San Martín was produced with Garnacha from the cooler zone of San Martín de Unx in Navarra where they have 11 hectares of 40-year-old vines on a southeast exposure where the soils are rich in limestone and silt. It's ripe, reflecting the warm and dry year, hitting the scale at 14.7% alcohol but keeping a low-ish pH of 3.42. It's an aromatic and expressive Garnacha with elegance, floral notes and hints of ripe fruit. It's fine-boned and has elegant tannins that make it easy to drink. It was filled into 12,000 bottles after nine months in 500-liter barrels." Drink 2023 - 2029
95/100 James Suckling (2018 vintage)
"Tangy and spicy with attractive Mediterranean herbs to the vivid, dark strawberries with hints of cigar box, flowers and iodine. Medium-bodied and quite elegant on the palate, with juicy red and blue berries coated by vertical yet well-honed tannins. Almost a bit ethereal. Immediately drinkable and attractive now, but can hold, too."
