A seriously good Chardonnay from a new import label of ours. Voyager are not only in a region famous for its Chardonnay, but are renowned for their specialised and premium offerings in this varietal. Much like one of our major customer favourites, Vasse Felix, this blend from across Voyager's superb vineyards is able to capture -- at a very reasonable price -- much of the depth and appeal for which their $100 plus Chardonnay labels are known. A must for lovers of both Kiwi and Aussie Chardies, the Voyager Estate should sell through pretty fast.

Its Origins

Voyager Estate is a premium producer in Margaret River, Western Australia. The late mining magnate Michael Wright pursued several avenues of business and agriculture before setting his sights on owning a vineyard and winery. It was thus an easy decision when he was able to buy what was then called Freycinet Estate from founder and leading viticulturist Peter Gherardi in 1991. Peter had established the vineyard in '78, and it was significantly expanded by Michael over the ensuing years. Apart from the Cape Dutch- style tasting room and vast rose garden, the signpost for the estate is the massive Australian flag pole - after Parliament House in Canberra, the largest flag pole in Australia. Michael's daughter, Alexandra Burt, has been at the helm of Voyager Estate for many years, supported by general manager Chris Furtado and a long-serving and committed staff.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, James Halliday

"Four clones, four estate blocks, four tonnelleries and innumerable vinification approaches. This lends substance to the number of newly created labels; here the acidity sends a farewell lift to the finish and aftertaste. Length, life and grace." Drink 2020 - 2027

94/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh (2017 vintage)

"I’m not sure when the label changed, but because I’m thorough, the bottle image here is the correct one. Ever a reliable performer, in the Chardonnay world. Whenever I taste Chardonnay, our own JH (John Humphrey) is in back of mind, that subtle and, frankly, formidable intellect, keeping me as honest as the day is long, which admittedly, is about one hour shorter in Queensland. So that advantage, we all have. -- White nectarine, mixed citrus, almond, nutmeg and other assorted spice. It’s fluid and easy to drink, a gentle gloss and limey acidity to add bite, oak folded in neatly layering in more spice and toast, ripe and almond-laced on a long finish. No bumps. All pleasure. Lovely."
