The two hands label is derived by the hands of South Australian businessmen Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz. Michael laid the foundation of Two Hands through his extensive extensive experience in marketing Australian wine in the US (for other producers). On the principle that if big is good, bigger is better, the style of the wines has been aimed squarely at the palate of the American palate and the American wine critics- especially Robert Parker Jr and Wine Spectators Harvey Steiman. Grapes are sourced from the Barossa Valley (where the business has 15ha of shiraz), McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Langhorne Creek and Padthaway. The emphasis of the wines is on sweet fruit and soft tannin structure, all signifying the precise marketing strategy of what is a very successful business.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on previous 2018 vintage
"Notes of black cherry, fresh blackberry, fresh lavender, pastry crust, and dark chocolate. Hits the palate with vibrancy and pop. Bright berry notes dance across the palate. Medium to full bodied with richness of fruit balanced by bright refreshing acidity. Tannins are prominent but melt beautifully into a wall of fruit. Finished with a lovely long palate, accented by notes of red licorice, lavender, and dark chocolate with a creamy texture from lees contact."
94/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Ned Goodwin (2017 vintage)
"Quintessentially Barossan, yet with a deft foot on a pedal that too often strays into excess. Not here. Boysenberry, smoked meat, fruitcake spice and dried fig to pan forte complexity. Yet a gentle reductive clench and smoked meat barrel ferment tone serve as a brake, corralling the jubilance into a peppery line of pulse and length."
