Double Gold at the China Wine & Spirits Awards. Deliciously fresh yet textural, this wine from up and coming Stanley Estate is very classy and very Awatere. Full of the herbal and gooseberry notes that the style is known for, this is also perfectly balanced and a 'serious' drop. An in-house favourite.

Sauvignon Blanc

Its Origins

The vineyard is nestled under Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku (Maori" "Footprint of the Rainbow"). At the top of the Southern Alps, it strongly influences the climate, with its rain shadow bestowing low rainfall and low humidity upon the Awatere Valley. Along with sunny days and cool nights this creates perfect conditions for slow steady ripening and flavour development. Awatere grapes have a distinctive fruity yet steely and herbaceous flavour quite different to those produced elsewhere in Marlborough.

What The Critics Say

16.5/20 Raymond Chan

"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is elegant and taut in concentration with classical cool-spectrum aromas of nettles, cut grass and green capsicums, with subtle herb and passionfruit notes, forming a fine core with mineral nuances. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has tightly bound, but intense flavours of cut-grass, nettles and fresh herbs along with nuances of passionfruit and minerals. The mouthfeel is steely and racy with brisk acidity, and the wine flows along a slender line, leading to a lingering finish of herbs, grass and capsicums. This is cool-spectrum Sauvignon Blanc with nettle, cut grass, mineral and passionfruit flavours on a crisp, zesty palate. Serve with Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Estate fruit, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. 16.5+/20 Jul 2018 RRP $22.99."

4.5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 vintage)

"Showing good vigour and intensity, the 2016 vintage (4.5*) is a lively, aromatic wine. Full-bodied and fresh, it has crisp passionfruit/lime flavours, slightly leesy notes adding complexity, and a dry (2.1 grams/litre of residual sugar), lingering finish."
