2018 Mendel Argentina Unus Malbec/Cabernet

94 Points Parker's Wine Advocate
In stock
A top red blend from Argentina's leading producer, Mendel. Ungrafted vines (planted from 1928) give perfectly ripe fruit with concentration that isn't sharp but mouth-filling, open and enveloping. New oak adds vanilla and toast to the equally generous earth and spice. Decant and enjoy with a hearty meal, or cellar it for a good few years.

Its Origins

Mendel Winery embodies the union of Roberto de la Mota - one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers - with an established Argentine family. Together they are dedicated to producing wines of unquestionable superior quality expressing the quality and character of their very old Malbec vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Luis Guttierez

The note of toasted sesame seeds and flinty smokiness was constant in many 2018s, including the 2018 Unus, a red blend of 65% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot that feels quite Bordeaux-like, with good ripeness, concentration and balance. It has a serious palate with abundant, slightly chalky tannins and a long and dry finish. This should develop nicely in bottle.
