Its Origins
"McPherson Wines is, by any standards, a substantial business. Its wines are largely produced for the export market, with enough sales in Australia to gain some measure of recognition here. Made at various locations from the estate vineyards and contract-grown grapes, they represent very good value. McPherson Wines is a joint venture between Andrew McPherson and Alister Purbrick (Tahbilk), both of whom have had a lifetime of experience in the industry. Quality is unfailingly good." — James Halliday
What The Critics Say
#1 Shiraz in Cuisine Tasting, 2020
"This wine is all about allowing the fruit to sing and, boy, does it; this is a delicious example of a cooler-climate shiraz with floral blueberry and blackberry fruits and just a hint of pepper spice. The succulent berry and black-fruit characters flow on through to the palate with acidity and silky tannin polish supporting a luxe finish. Perfectly described by head judge Ben as a shiraz with poise, presence and personality."
Huon Hooke
"Deep red/purple colour. Spicy fruit and oak, with strong plum and dark cherry fruit. It's medium-bodied and soft, fruit driving the palate, which is very gentle and the texture mild and very approachble. There is sweet fruit in the centre. Good drinking already. 09 FEB 2020. Drink 2020 - 2028
93/100 James Halliday
From a single vineyard in the Grampians, matured in French puncheons, 80% new. Shows all the hallmarks of shiraz from this region with black fruit, liquorice and spice, but differs from most in that it's completely approachable so young. It has structure and tannin but feels like it's ready and raring to be drunk now, which seems to be the house style.
