Grape
Approximately 70% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache and 15% Cinsault
Its Origins
Located a few kilometers from the Mediterranean, along one of the renowned terroirs of Bandol, the “chemin de L’argile” (clay path), close to the famed Pibarnon estate. Jean-Marie Castel is the vineyard manager and vintner here, with ownership stemming down from the Ferec family for a few generations. The estate farms about 10 hectares, of which 6.5 is Mourvedre, with the rest Grenache, Cinsault, Clairette and Ugni Blanc. They also rent 2 hectares of vines, mostly to be used in the rosé. Vineyard management is almost organic, or “lutte raisonnée”, and the work is all manual (including hand harvesting - a stipulation all over the Bandol AOC). Very traditional.
What The Critics Say
90-92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski
"Tasted as a tank sample, this 2018 Bandol Rose comes across as edgy and young (as it should). Peach, tangerine and lime zest mark the nose, while the medium-bodied palate should smooth out nicely within a few months yet retain enough freshness to drink well for a couple of years."Drink 2019 - 2021
93/100 Decanter Magazine, 50 Top Rosés of the World (2015 vintage)
"Pale, salmon pink with orangey flecks. Restrained aromas of apricot, spice and herbs that continue on the palate. Concentrated, chewy and weighty with mineral acidity. Mouthwatering and fresh, if a little understated. Complexity will come." Drink 2016 - 2018
