Its Origins

La Crema in Russian River was established in 1979, long before Sonoma had gained an international reputation for cool climate varietals, Pinot noir and Chardonnay. In 1993 it came under the Jackson family banner, which meant a growth in market possibilities but also in access to top vineyards, infrastructure and talent. However the career of winemaker Elizabeth Grant-Douglas, rising over fourteen years from enologist to Director of Winemaking, illustrates La Crema’s ongoing independent focus, commitment to strict working methods and deep in-house terroir knowledge.

It is gloriously expressed on the nose showing mango, golden peach, fig and cedar characters with nuances of vanilla and butterscotch. The palate is equally gratifying with excellent weight and roundness, backed by creamy mouthfeel and velvety texture. It is bold, sumptuous and impressively long with layers of delectable flavours. "Full, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter edged. The nose is very full and voluminous with densely packed and harmoniously interwoven aromas of ripe stonefruit and citrus fruits, and savoury tropical fruits melded with a layer of creamy and nutty barrel-ferment notes. This unfolds plenty of complexing detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly rich with gently mouthfilling flavours of ripe stonefruits and citrus fruits in an amalgam of creamy barrel-ferment and savoury oak complexities. This has richness, mouthfeel and presence, balanced by underlying acidity. The flavours carry to a soft, full, lingering toasty finish. This is a harmonious and already complex layered Chardonnay with stonefruit, citrus fruit, and creamy, nutty oak flavours. Match with poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years.
