Viognier

Its Origins

Wine Enthusiast named his winery Europe’s best in 2011, but Gerard Bertrand began as a rugby player representing France and Narbonne. It wasn’t until the early death of his father that he returned to take the reigns of the family operation, Domaine de Villemajou in Boutenac, Corbieres. He soon identified the potential of the Languedoc-Roussillon to produce rich yet bright, modern wines suited to world market trends and from there began acquiring labels and properties across the region. Balancing an organic and increasingly biodynamic viticulture with an evangelical zeal for exporting his Mediterranean ‘Art de Vivre’, Gerard Bertrand has quickly become one of the most important champions of that which epitomises Southern French wine of today: superb quality in quantity.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes

"The Viognier variety is known for its delicate feel and texture on the palate, rich and smooth. It is perfectly suited to the cooler terroirs on the untamed hillsides of the Pays d’Oc. It releases complex notes of peach, pear, tropical fruits and white flowers. This fresh and fruity 100% Viognier exhales notes of honeysuckle, ripe pear, peach, orange blossom and citrus fruits"

Wine Enthusiast (2009 vintage)

"Ripe and rich without being overdone, this is a well-balanced Viognier with stone fruit and Anjou pear flavors lifted by accents of peony and orange rind. Vibrant acidity keeps things lively in the mouth, with a refreshingly crisp finish. — L.B. (5/1/2011)"

Parker's Wine Advocate

"Gerard Bertrand makes a bevy of high-class wines from throughout the Languedoc and Roussillon. The wines emphasize fruit and texture, with a modern edge, yet they are never over the top and are always well-made and enjoyable."
