A powerful dry Riesling from a top Grand Cru vineyard in the Mosel Valley. The Juffer Sonnenhur GG represents the top selection of fruit from this outstanding vineyard, with full ripeness filling out spicy florals and minerals with an immense weight of orange citrus and stonefruit. Delicious soon and with sure potential, this GG is an outstanding propsect for the price.

Its Origins

The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.

What The Critics Say

18/20 JancisRobinson.com, Michael Schmidt

"Very opulent, the fruit of sweet orange and nectarine together with its rich texture emphasising hedonistic expression. Extremely appealing for lovers of ample curves. (MS)." Drink 2020 - 2030

93+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Stephan Reinhardt (2017 vintage)

"Vinified partly in oak fuder (two-thirds) and partly in stainless steel (one-third), the 2017 Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Trocken GG is clear, very fine and elegant on the yeasty-scented nose. Full-bodied, refined and salty on the firmly structured palate, this is a complex and elegant Riesling that has fine tannins and grip but needs even more time to integrate its components than the Juffer. Tasted in March 2019."
