A superb dry Riesling from a top producer in Germany's Mosel Valley. This is sourced entirely from two Grand Cru vineyards, Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr, so although the quality is extremely high it must be labelled -- and priced -- as a mere village wine. Properly dry but beaufirully defined and textured, this is a marvellous and masterful Rielsing for the price.

Its Origins

The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.

What The Critics Say

16.5/20 Jancis Robinson

"Mild nose. Bone dry but with fruit and acidity in harmony. Pretty pungent but not too demanding. Peacock's tail of flavour on the end. But no quarter given to those who hanker after sweetness. Be warned." Drink 2020 - 2025

91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Stephan Reinhardt

"Predominantly from 10- to 25-year-old vines in the Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr, the intensely colored 2016 Brauneberger Riesling Trocken opens with a stunning "sponty" flavor from the lees aging until March. Intense and ripe, it has lovely slatey aromas and very nice fruit intensity. Full-bodied, lush and very elegant, this is a well-balanced, piquant and expressive village Riesling with a long, intense, charmingly juicy and aromatic finish. This is an excellent dry Riesling from two of the top vineyards of the Mosel. 12% alcohol."
