Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Domaine Rewa is a tiny 5.5 hectare vineyard located on the fluvial terrace nestled in the foothills of the Pisa Range. Although the property was planted in 1997, 2011 was Domaine Rewa’s first vintage. Production is 10k bottles per year. Wanting to make the most of this special plot of land, Philippa Shepherd works with Grant Rolston, Gary Ford and winemaker Pete Bartle to pursue her dream of producing refined wines inspired by the elegance of Burgundy. To ensure the Domaine remains the best possible custodian of the land, biodynamic land practices are deployed - the result is pure and perfumed wines expressive of the Central Otago terroir, renowned as one of the finest in NZ.

What The Critics Say

19/20 Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

"Bright, medium ruby-red with a deep tone, youthful, even colour throughout. The bouquet is full, but restraint; beautiful fragrances of black cherries, blackberries entwined with the scent of violets in a field of thyme alongside a dusting of baking spices in the air. Medium-bodied, pure and fresh flavours of black cherries and blackberries carries a crisp acid line; unfolding layers of violet fragrance, thyme and a kick of black pepper and nutmeg spices. The mouthfeel has weight and power, a strong presence of fine-grained tannin extraction, contribute to a silky and elegant tannin structure. A note of liquorice melded with herbs and spices lingers to a long and sustained finish. This Pinot Noir has power and elegance, exhibiting ripened black fruit with balanced acidity, along with violet, herbs and spices nuances with a silky and structured tannin extraction. Will reward with moderate-term ageing. Match with pork belly and venison ribs over the next 7-10 years. Fruit from Lowburn, clone 5 and 113. Handpicked, two clones fermented separately, clone 113 with 20% whole bunch, all other destemmed. 13.3% alc. Aged in French oak barriques for 12 months, 26% new. Biodynamic farming. BioGro organic certified. "19/20pts June 2020 RRP $50

95/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2017 vintage)

"The wine is gorgeously fruited and inviting on the nose showing dark cherry, blueberry, violet and almond characters with subtle spicy complexity. It is magnificently weighted and succulent on the palate, delivering fine texture and silky mouthfeel, brilliantly framed by loads of polished tannins. Promising to evolve magnificently."
