A reference point for quality in Kiwi Sauvignon. Dog Point is made by ex-Cloudy Bay experts and offers beautifully defined character, but nothing aggressive or obviously shouting. Perfect balance, complexity and texture make this a top notch example for the price. A Sav not only for Sav lovers, but lovers of fine wine, this is a future legend and a must-try.

Sauvignon Blanc

Its Origins

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Intense, ripe sauvignon blanc with tree fruit, nectarine, red capsicum and guava flavours. A rich, gently tangy and deliciously accessible wine that stood out from the crowd in a tasting of 2018 wines. 05 NOV 2018." Drink 2018 - 2022

18.5/20 Raymond Chan

"Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is fresh with softly full aromas of white and green stonefruits, piquant fresh herbs, some gooseberry notes and subtle complexing mouthwatering minerally lees elements. This is elegantly presented and has good intensity. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a rich and succulent core of green stonefruits and gooseberries with fresh herb notes and subtle flinty, minerally lees detail. The palate sweetness is balanced by fine, fresh acidity and the flavours flow along with an elegantly concentrated core with very good linearity and thirst-quenching crispness to a long, lingering finish of stonefruits, herbs and minerals. Serve with Pacific Rim fare and Mediterranean dishes over the next 2+ years. 100% UCD1 clone fruit from estate vineyards, hand-picked and WBP, fermented in stainless-steel, a portion by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 2-3 months on lees. Certified BioGro organic. 18.5/20 Oct 2018 RRP $28.50."

5 Stars Michael Cooper

"This wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc (see the Branded and Other White Wines section). Hand-picked at several sites in the Wairau Valley, it is lees-aged in tanks but handled without oak. The 2018 vintage (5*) is tightly structured, mouthfilling and very youthful. Sweet-fruited, it has strong, vibrant, ripely herbaceous flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, that build to a long, dry finish. Certified organic.' Drink 2018 - 2022
