En Primeur product: order now for arrival mid 2021. La Chenade is a staff and customer favourite, in a really flowing and defined Bordeux style for a modest price. Mostly Merlot from sandier soils, it unfolds gently bright aromatics of red fruits, with Cabernet Franc bringing a background of darker fruit and fine structure. In Lalande-de-Pomerol, it is only a Kilometre from its famous parent estate in Pomerol itself, Chateau L’Eglise Clinet -- from which it receives second fill barrels. With serious pedigree and pleasure, La Chenade will be perfect to decant at the dinner table on arrival, or to lay down a while longer. Well worth collecting at this low price! To remove foreign exchange risk for our customers, listed prices are all up final landed cost including GST. Payment is due on invoice/order placement, with delivery in mid 2021.

Its Origins

La Chenade is produced by Chateau Les Cruzelles in Lalande-de-Pomerol, which is owned by Denis Durantou - better known for his famous Pomerol estate, Chateau L’Eglise Clinet. Located in the commune of Neac, the Lez Cruzelles vineyards are only about 1 kilometer from Chateau L’Eglise Clinet - in fact, they are so close you can see Les Cruzelles from L'Eglise. The 10 hectares of Les Cruzelles are planted to 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. This could be the highest proportion of Cabernet Franc in the appellation. The terroir is clay and gravel soil. The majority of the blend for Chateau Les Cruzelles is usually taken up by Merlot. For the vinification of Les Cruzelles, the wine is fermented in tank and is aged in 50%, new, French oak barrels. There is a second wine, Chateau La Chenade, which is aged in an average of 25% new, French oak barrels. Chateau La Chenade is produced from the estates young vines and includes more Cabernet Franc in the blend.

What The Critics Say

92-93/100 James Suckling

"This is really delicious and fresh with lovely dark berries and purity at the same time. Medium body, fine tannins and a lovely finish."

92/100 Decanter, Jane Anson

"This is super fresh and juicy - an easy wine to recommend. It’s full of well-ripened autumnal fruits and is in fact pretty concentrated in terms of flavours – a wine that shows just how fully the grapes ripened on gravel soils in 2018 and yet maintains its floral aromatics and sense of easy elegance. 30% new oak was used. A yield of 40hl/ha." Drink 2024 - 2038

89-92/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 La Chenade is another stellar wine in Denis Durantou's lineup. Ripe, racy and exuberant, the 2018 is super-expressive, even in the early going. Succulent red cherry, plum, spice and new leather add layers of nuance. Ultimately, though, La Chenade is a wine of pure and total pleasure more than anything else. Floral notes and a final burst of red-toned fruit add character to this Lalande de Pomerol from sandy, gravelly soils."
