A exclusive new Pinot Noir from a top Kiwi wine consultant. PJ Charteris works his day job as a consultant in Australia's Hunter Valley, and the rest of the time embarked on a "homecoming" project making top class wines out of vineyards on Bannockburn's Felton Road, in Central Otago. This is a beautiful and incredibly high-scoring example, which is dry and at the same time plush with dark red and blue fruits, along with a fine spicey structure. Gorgeous wine for a very low price, the Charteris is currently exclusive to Caro's — and really worth checking out!

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

"Owners Peter James (PJ) Charteris and partner Christina Pattison met at Brokenwood in the Hunter Valley in 1999. PJ was the chief executive winemaker at Brokenwood, and Christina was the marketing manager. Together they have over four decades of winemaking and wine marketing experience. In 2008 they launched their boutique brand For NZ-born PJ, finding a top Pinot Noir site in Central Otago New Zealand was a spiritual homecoming. They also have a vineyard with the gold-plated address of Felton Road, Bannockburn, planted to clones 115 777 and Abel. Currently the mouse (small production) that roared but who knows what the future holds!" James Halliday

What The Critics Say

95/100 The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson

"I tasted this among a range of pinot noirs and it stood out head and shoulders. You’re only as good as your competition of course but the truth is that the quality here sits firmly and squarely. It’s beautifully spiced and the cut of tannin is noteworthy. I always like it when structure and spice stand out before fruit, though there’s nothing underpowered about the latter. It’s a boysenberried pinot with smoke notes and florals. There’s both a ripeness and a juiciness to the palate but there’s also an emphasis on dryness. It’s a most impressive wine."
