A new bottling of Chenin Blanc from some of NZ's biggest fans of this grape, Astrolabe. Zingy and bright with white free fruits and refreshing minerality, this gorgeous white reflects Astrolabes devotion to the Chenin vines of the Wrekin vineyard. A wonderful aperitif and match with fish and white meats. This pretty new bottle is even more appealing in the glass!

Chenin Blanc

Its Origins

Astrolabe was created in 1996 by winemaker Simon Waghorn, the culmination of a career that began in South Australia in 1982. Winemaking later led Simon and his family from Te Kauwhata to Gisborne, where he specialised in Chardonnay, and eventually to Marlborough where in 1996 he and his wife Jane Forrest-Waghorn joined with old friends Paul Davenport and Sally Lewis to have a go at their own label…and so began Astrolabe. Today they work with a number of growers scattered all over Marlborough, from Awatere valley to the Kekerengu coast to the Wairau Valley, developing a wide portfolio of iconic wines that celebrate the varieties and terroirs of Marlborough.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Taut and tangy chenin blanc with green apple, citrus, lemon and a suggestion of slightly green nectarine. A little initial sweetness is perfectly balanced by fine, assertive acidity to give the wine some pleasing tension. Very pure and with obvious potential, although good with seafood dishes that have a strong citrus component (oysters and lime juice is an obvious example) 18/10/2018." Drink 2018 - 2025

4 Stars Michael Cooper

"From an exceptionally warm growing season, the 2018 vintage (4*) was grown in the Wrekin Vineyard, in the Southern Valleys, and handled without oak. Pale lemon/green, it is fresh and medium-bodied, with vibrant, delicate, lemony, appley flavours, a minerally streak, and an off-dry (6.8 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Best drinking 2021+."
