From the man at the helm of the Sacred Hill Wines. Tony has now started his own label and he will be producing only Chardonnay. The wine is clearly aimed at the 'old school' style of Chardonnay, exemplified best by his top Skeetfield label. But Tony's expertise allows the wines to remain elegant and refined, even while they are while big, bold and buttery. Experimentation in style and technique is meanwhile producing results in new styles such as his remakable, un-oaked Golden Egg Chardonnay.

"Initially restrained with softly concentrated and subtly layered aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit harmoniously melded with nutty oak and mealy detail, unfolding suggestions of minerals and smoke. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a rich and concentrated core of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit entwined with some creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak. This has plenty of detail with mealy and toasty nuances. The flavours grow in richness to fill the mouth, but this is balanced by refreshing lacy acidity. There is underlying drive and power that carries the wine with positive linearity to a rich and concentrated, sustained finish. Match with roasted and grilled seafood poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Skeetfield’ vineyard, fully indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 60% new Taransaud oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Sep 2018 RRP $59.95." Single vineyard just out of Fernhill. Old vine dry-farmed block, 25 years old. The owner is a skeet shooting champion, appropriately named Dennis Gunn. In 2005/6/7 Tony made Chardonnay under the Gunn label and won lots of trophies, and when Sacred Hill switched the attention to their Riflemans block, Tony got what he calls the Skeetfield fruit from Dennis. This is fermented in ovum (40%) and barrique (60%, new oak). Really fine and expressive with well integrated oak and a nice spiciness, as well as refined pear and white peach fruit. So harmonious with lovely weight and texture, and a long, fresh finish. A really classy wine. ."
