Top rated gris in the Cuisine Tasting and very well priced. A dry and floral Pinot Gris from a serious Central Otago producer. Terra Sancta are getting increasing recognition for the quailty and appeal of their beautifully made wines. The "Diggings" vineyard is the most elevated in Bannockburn -- Central's foremost subregion -- and offers a special delicacy and early appeal suited to this insanely good price point. Gently exotic fruit and spice occupy a refined and refreshing, pristine nose and palate. Lovely stuff.

Pinot Gris

Its Origins

Bannockburn winery Terra Sancta comprises two connected vineyards on Felton Rd, including the vineyard formerly known as Olssens. Terra Sancta means sacred land, an indication of the respect new proprietors Mark Weldon and Sarah Eliott have for the estate that is host to the oldest vines in the Cromwell Basin. There are currently five pinot noirs in the Terra Sancta range: the estate pinot, the second-tier Mysterious Diggings label and three premium single-block expressions – Jackson’s Block, Slapjack Block and Shingle Beach. White varietals produced are chardonnay, pinot gris and riesling.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Bright, fresh and tangy pinot gris with citrus, lime, naschi pear and green apple flavours. An ethereal texture and good acidity add appeal. Appealing and accessible wine with energy. 26/8/2017." Drink 2017 - 2020

91/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Youthful, vibrant and fragrant, the bouquet shows rockmelon, kiwifruit, orange zest and subtle spice aromas. It is juicy and lively on the palate, and displays lovely fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, brilliantly structured by bright acidity, finishing long and mouth-watering. At its best: now to 2019. $23.00. www.terrasancta.co.nz. Nov 2017." Drink 2018 - 2019

5 Stars Cuisine

THIS IS A DELIGHTFULLY accessible, unfussy style. Wildflower and jasmine scents lead the way to a juicy, focused mouthful offering flavours akin to fresh pear with a touch of sweetness and spice. Its cool southern origins are evident in the wine’s lift and freshness. It finishes with crispness and length. “All the bones are very visible; it’s a very transparent wine,” noted Simon Nunns. Try it alongside a crayfish bisque.
