A smooth and harmonious Grenache blend from a quiet Barossa legend. Cult producers Spinifex are leaders in 'New Barossa', in which brighter and fresher fruit character is the result of moderate micro-climates and/or judicious harvesting. Ripe and succulent but more medium-bodied, these sophisticated wines lean toward Southern French and Kiwi styles. A GSM style that benefits from beautifully managed vineyards where these full-bodied grapes reach perfect ripeness, followed by a gentle management that enhances the wine's flow and fine texture. Easy to love yet with palpable quality, the Miette Grenache blend is a sweet spot for price and harmony.

Its Origins

Spinifex is one of the undercover jewels of the Barossa Valley. New Zealand husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals. Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex. The focus at Spinifex is the red varieties that dominate in the south of France: mataro (more correctly mourvedre), grenache, shiraz and cinsaut. The wines are made in open fermenters, basket-pressed, with partial wild (indigenous) fermentation and relatively long post-ferment maceration.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, James Halliday

"Spinifex in best form. Tendrils of spice and wood smoke on the bouquet, ramping up the chorus of red and black cherries, raspberry and blackberry on the medium-bodied, juicy palate. This isn't simply a case of having fun with an esoteric blend, it's been carefully calibrated." Drink by 2032
