In stock

A salivating and minerally Sauvignon Blanc from Bannockburn in Central Otago. With beautifully defined and 'crunchy' fruit flavours, there is also a racy and mineral acidity to lend a clean finish. An undervalued grape for this region, the Mt Difficulty Sav is a serious aperitif and food wine.

Its Origins

It all began in the early 1990's, when the owners of five newly-planted vineyards in Bannockburn shook hands and decided to work together to produce wine under one label, Mt Difficulty. As a result, Mt Difficulty now owns some of the oldest vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago in New Zealand's rugged South Island. The Mt Difficulty brand started in 1998 with a very small production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, made by Grant Taylor of Gibbston Valley Wines (now of Valli Wines). Prior to this the gang sold their grapes to either Gibbston Valley or Chard Farm. The Air New Zealand wine awards in 1999 put Mt Difficulty on the map, with the 1998 Pinot Noir winning a gold medal and the Chardonnay, silver.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Moderately weighty and flavoursome sauvignon blanc with rock melon, guava and capsicum flavours. Soft, fruity acidity, with a silken texture and just a hint of sweetness. Impressive purity 14/2/2018." Drink 2018 - 2021
