A beautiful low-alcohol bubbly (5%) made in a wonderful and sometimes overlooked style. By supreme these experts in Piedmont, the Massolino Moscato offers a subtle spritz within the deliciously defined, sweet fruits supported by fresh and clean acidity. Perfect as a breakfast or lunch bubbly -- or equally as an aperitif or light dessert wine -- the Massolino is a fine example.

Its Origins

Massolino are among the foremost Barolo producers, with deep history in Serralunga d'Alba. Giovanni Massolino founded the estate in 1896 and was also the first to bring electricity to his village. Son Guiseppe and daughter Angela were likewise ahead of their time, in 1934 extending holdings in what are now regarded as some of Barolo's best crus - Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda. Whilst channelling their tradition, Massolino also utilise the heavier clay soils of Serralunga to bring a satisfying breadth, density and structure to their Barolo’s - which, balanced against their extreme refinement and expressive clarity - make them almost incomparable for the price.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on current 2017 vintage

"Appearance: bright straw yellow, with fine and persistent perlage; it maintains limited pressure, as recommended by the tradition of this wine. Bouquet: tempting, immensely fresh and intense, it reveals decisive fruit notes, with a clear predominance of sage. Flavour: expansive and enveloping, but not too sweet; the typical aroma of Moscato grapes is naturally prevalent and it has a very long and delicious finish. It is best to serve it at temperatures between 9-10°C. Superb with desserts, such as the classic Langhe hazelnut cake or apple and pine nut cake, lemon cake, fruit puffs and traditional Christmas panettone. It is also extremely particular and seductive when served with mature, slightly spicy cheeses. To fully appreciate the fragrance of this wine, we recommend uncorking just before pouring."
