2017 Jadot Morey St Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes

Pinot Noir
Its Origins
In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.
What The Critics Say
91-93/100 Vinous, Neal Martin
The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Ormes 1er Cru has a pure, quite generous, almost Chambolle-like bouquet of ample red cherries, raspberry coulis and subtle vanilla aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and a fine bead of acidity. Quite "correct" and linear, yet with admirable precision toward the finish. This is a finely crafted Morey Premier Cru from Jadot.” Drink 2020 - 2038
90-92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, William Kelley
"The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes (Maison Louis Jadot) was showing very well, bursting with aromas of sweet berry fruit, candied peel, baking chocolate and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and lavish, with juicy acids, fine but chalky structuring tannins and a long finish. -- Jadot's Frédéric Barnier is pleased with his 2017 portfolio. It's a good white vintage, he says, neither over nor underripe, and in some instances—as is the norm at this address—malolactic fermentation was blocked to retain additional freshness."
89-91/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows
"Strong menthol and wood all but mask the underlying fruit of various red berries and an attractive floral element. The generous, round and quite supple middle weight flavors possess an attractive texture before concluding in a rich and acceptably complex and persistent finale. This is pretty enough but not especially deep though more complexity may well develop in time." Drink 2025
