2017 Gemtree Dragon's Blood McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon
"Following a wine retail background going back to 1966, Paul and Jill Buttery established Gemtree Vineyards in 1980 when they purchased a vineyard on Tatachilla Road in the McLaren Vale. The grew the business releasing their own Gemtree label in 1998. Son Andrew Buttery now heads the company, and his sister Melissa and her husband Mike Brown look after the viticulture and winemaking. The company has made the commitment to sustainability, practising biodynamic farming and achieved Australian Certified Organic certification in 2011. Gemtree owns over 130 ha of vineyards across three main sites and makes a large range of wines over different tiers." Raymond Chan

"Despite the warmth of the region, the maritime influence of McLaren Vale imbues strong varietal definition to its cabernets. This is no exception. Cassis, bouquet garni and an avuncular whiff of cigar box serve the wine's forceful dry extract well, conferring a sense of savouriness, despite the undercarriage of ripeness. Winemaker notes on current 2016 vintage
"Bright crimson with a dark hue. The aroma is vibrant, lifted, fruit driven with jubey fruits, strawberry and creamy blueberry and slightly herbaceous. This is an easy drinking wine displaying varietal purity. The palate is fruit driven, generous, lively with soft balanced acid and fine grain tannins that integrate with the fruit flavours. Veal with pomegranate glaze and roasted vegetables.
