A bright and fresh red blend from organic producers in Australia's McLaren Vale. Lately Gemtree have further refined their handling to increase their wines' softness, giving these full bodied red grapes -- Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre -- a nice sense of delicacy and roundness. Made in an elegant and modern Rhone style, this offers organic quality and juicy drinkability. Well worth a try!

Its Origins

"Following a wine retail background going back to 1966, Paul and Jill Buttery established Gemtree Vineyards in 1980 when they purchased a vineyard on Tatachilla Road in the McLaren Vale. The grew the business releasing their own Gemtree label in 1998. Son Andrew Buttery now heads the company, and his sister Melissa and her husband Mike Brown look after the viticulture and winemaking. The company has made the commitment to sustainability, practising biodynamic farming and achieved Australian Certified Organic certification in 2011. Gemtree owns over 130 ha of vineyards across three main sites and makes a large range of wines over different tiers." Raymond Chan

What The Critics Say

92/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Jane Faulkner

"Really reductive making decanting essential then it opens up to a savoury outlook of earth, aniseed, hot metal, wood char and cherry pips. A more austere style this vintage with slightly drying tannins yet this GSM is bound to a surprisingly lighter frame. Needs more time or a juicy steak." Drink by 2024
