A deep and complex Chardonnay from Domaine Ferret's upper range. The Clos Des Prouges vineyard is near the heart of the village of Fuisse, where clay and chalk soils provide minerality and aromatic detail. The style is pure Pouilly Fuisse: freshness and verve underlie a richness so opulent it competes with the great wines of the Cotes de Beaune. It exceels in sheer deliciousness, especially in younger drinking, as seems natural from this warmer climate in south Burgundy where the name of a famous vineyard takes the place of designations like Premier or Grand Cru. This range is a staff favourite and offers exceptional pleasure without a long wait.

Its Origins

Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Decanter, Tim Atkin MW

"Clay soils and old vines have produced a wine that is among the richest and densest of Domaine Ferret's 2017 line up. It's ripe but not heavy in the least, toasty and assertive, showing brioche and honeyed flavours built around a spine of tangy acidity." Drink 2019 - 2024

92+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, William Kelley

"The 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru Clos des Prouges unwinds in the glass with a delicate bouquet of crisp orchard fruits, honeycomb, almond paste and fresh pastry. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and mineral, with a firm, structured core that's built around a bright girdle of acidity and chalky structuring extract. This is very promising, but it will reward a little bottle age." Drink 2022 - 2035

91/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"Moderate oak influence surrounds the mildly exotic array of very ripe liqueur-like aromas of white peach, passion fruit, lychee nut and petrol. The medium plus weight flavors are rich to the point of opulence before terminating in a sappy, concentrated and citrus zest-inflected finish where a hint of warmth appears. This is a big Pouilly-Fuissé that is indisputably generous though it's not particularly refined." Drink 2023+
