2017 Elephant Hill Reserve Hawkes Bay Cab Franc Cab Merlot
A blend of usually Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon
Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"Classically composed and gorgeously styled, the wine shows cassis, dark cherry, spicy oak, olive and subtle cocoa characters on the nose. It's concentrated and wonderfully flavoursome on the palate, while remaining firmly structured by chalky tannins, leading to an impressively long sturdy finish. At its best: 2021 to 2030. $54.00. www.elephanthill.co.nz. March 2020." Drink 2021 - 2030
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"Immediately captivating bouquet with dark berries and violets, dark wood spices and, plums, blackberry and dried herbs; quite complex and alluring. On the palate - intense, sweet fruited with blackberry and dark plum, olive and a touch of boot-polish and tar. Ripe tannins, medium+ acidity, a core of fruit, clove and vanilla, violet and tobacco. Lengthy finish, persistent flavours and extremely food friendly. Well made. Best drinking from today and through 2026+." Drink 2020 - 2026+
