Silky and juicy, this is superb quality in a style you can drink right now. Succulent red and black fruits are nuanced with Provencal herbs and wrapped around a balanced, medium-full body. A delicious Cotes du Rhone from the Sabon family of Chateauneuf legend -- and the quality shows.

Its Origins

Domaine de la Janasse was established in 1973 by Aimé Sabon. Brother and sister team of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon continue to work wonders at Janasse, and farm 80 hectares of vineyards spread over a number of wine appellations: Châteauneuf du Pâpe, which is all located in the north-east of the appellation in the commune of Courthézon to be precise, Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Village, but also Vin de Pays de la Principauté d'Orange and Vin de table. Concrete tanks are used for the Grenache and oak for the Syrah and Mourvèdre; in other words, everything is fairly traditional; it is the quality of the raw materials which is so impressive and for that reason alone, leaving aside the clear skill and vision of the Sabons, that we are delighted to take on these excellent wines in our listings.

What The Critics Say

Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck (2014 vintage)

"Just bottled, the 2014 Côtes du Rhône is made from 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Carignan, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Loaded with notions of earthy black cherry fruit, leather and pepper, drink this medium-bodied, fresh and well made Côtes du Rhône over the coming couple of years...These latest 2013 and 2014s from the brother/sister pair of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon are easily some of the finest wines in the vintages, with both vintages possessing impressive levels of fruit and texture. In addition to their stunning Châteauneuf du Papes (both red and white), their lineup of Côtes du Rhônes continues to knock it out of the park and represents superb value. Looking at the 2014s, these were harvest from September 15 to October 2. Even though this was a large crop, yields here were down over 20% due to dropped crop. When asked which vintage he preferred, 2013 or 2014, Christophe couldn’t pick a favorite, but compared 2014 to 2004 and 2013 to 1999." Drink 2015 - 2017

Vinous, Josh Raynolds (2013 vintage)

"Youthful violet. Expansive red fruit and floral aromas are complicated by hints of garrigue and white pepper. Fleshy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors become more tangy with aeration and pick up a subtle floral nuance. Finishes sweet and supple, offering echoes of spiciness and smooth tannins."

Jancis Robinson MW (2013 vintage)

"Bright and ripe fruit. Spicy, perfumed nose and loads of savoury fruit on the finish. Top quality stuff - really expressive at a very reasonable price. (RH)"
