A great discount on classic Chardonnay. It is broad and powerful but also sports a chalky freshness from the limestone in the name (it is grown next to Webster's limeworks in Hawkes Bay). This offering from Cooper's Creek is becoming a quiet legend and consistently delivers concentration and quality for a very reasonable price. 'Fat' and open with a slightly oily palate, it is lifted by minerality and driven by balanced acidity...no wonder our customers love it!

Its Origins

Founded in 1980 by Andrew and Cynthia Hendry when the New Zealand wine industry was small and relatively unknown, Coopers Creek Vineyard has grown and matured over three decades into a top class winery with a strong international presence. It continues to innovate, particularly with new wine styles, introducing and pioneering promising new grape varieties that are ideal for cool climate regions. Viognier, Albariño, Arneis, Grüner Veltliner, Marsanne and Montepulciano are new varieties for New Zealand, but heading for stardom. Coopers Creek is satisfying a growing demand for these stylish varieties in addition to its longstanding pedigree with Chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux reds.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2016 vintage)

"A delectably expressed chardonnay; the instantly appealing bouquet shows rockmelon, nectarine, nougat, vanilla and toasted hazelnut characters, leading to a concentrated palate that is beautifully weighted and persistent. The wine offers fabulous ripe fruit flavours as well as stylish oak undertones, wonderfully complemented by creamy mouthfeel and bright acidity. $25. www.cooperscreek.co.nz. March 2018."

92/100 Bob Campbell MW (2015 vintage)

"Fine, chalky chardonnay, with restrained tree fruit and citrus flavours plus a seasoning of nutty yeast lees and spicy oak. The wine has good weight and 'glycerol-like' mouthfeel, with a moderately lengthy finish. An appealing wine with subtle power. RRP $25.95. 7/3/2016"
