Founded in 1980 by Andrew and Cynthia Hendry when the New Zealand wine industry was small and relatively unknown, Coopers Creek Vineyard has grown and matured over three decades into a top class winery with a strong international presence. It continues to innovate, particularly with new wine styles, introducing and pioneering promising new grape varieties that are ideal for cool climate regions. Viognier, Albariño, Arneis, Grüner Veltliner, Marsanne and Montepulciano are new varieties for New Zealand, but heading for stardom. Coopers Creek is satisfying a growing demand for these stylish varieties in addition to its longstanding pedigree with Chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux reds.
What The Critics Say
4 Stars Michael Cooper
"The 2017 vintage (4*) was harvested in the Bell Vineyard and tank-fermented. Lemon-scented, with good intensity and vigour of youthful, citrusy, slightly spicy flavours, it has a salty streak, a basically dry feel and firm acid spine."
93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2016 vintage)
"Elegant and pristine, the inviting bouquet shows white stone fruit, lemon peel, apple blossom and almond characters. The palate is juicy and focused with excellent purity and fine texture, wonderfully framed by bright acidity, finishing persistent and attractive. Always reliable, always stylish. At its best: now to 2019. $23.00. April 2017." Drink 2017 - 2019
