Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc
Although vines have been grown here since Gallo-Roman times, the name goes back to the 14th century, when serfs who worked in the vineyard lived in cabins (“cabanes”). A dynamic estate, Château La Cabanne regularly updates their winemaking equipment (which was totally replaced in 2011 after a fire destroyed the vat room), while gradually restructuring the vineyard. Viticultural practices combine both a traditional and modern approach, and are done in keeping with the appellation’s highest standards. Château La Cabanne is a well-balanced wine, with an intense, complex nose showing hints of blackberry jam, raspberry and toasted bread. Silky tannin on the palate provides volume and density, and there is a long aftertaste. Undergoing rigorous blending, La Cabanne ranks among the greatest Pomerols.

"The 2017 La Cabanne is a Pomerol cru that flies just under the radar. This latest release continues to prove that François Estager owns some serious terroir, located right next to Trotanoy in fact. It has a nicely detailed bouquet with scents of blackberry, pencil lead and undergrowth aromas. There is palpable focus and good vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with well-defined red berry fruit laced with brown spice and a discrete, almost cola-like tincture. This feels nimble, poised and for want of a better word, joyful. It might not be the most profound Pomerol that François Estager has ever made but I can see this drinking beautifully over the next decade." Drink 2021 - 2034
