A rich and generous style of Merlot from Bordeaux's Saint Emilion. The vintage of 2017 meant only their better fruit from the plateau was included, and since the estate also produces no reserve wine, this label carries all the best of this highly selected fruit. Made by Michel Rolland for a lengthy future in cellar, or a mouth-filling and characterful red in the shorter term. Haut Brisson is an exceptional choice at this price.

Its Origins

Château Haut-Brisson is now located on the limestone plateau of Saint- Etienne-de-Lisse and the gravelly hilltops of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens and spreads over 22 hectares. In 1997, Peter Kwok acquired Château Haut- Brisson in partnership with this daughter Elaine. The property benefits from a diversity of terroirs of ideal exhibitions en- joying maximum exposure to the midday sun and excellent natural drainage conditions allowing optimum harvest. Château Haut-Brisson practices organic farming.

What The Critics Say

90-93/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

“The 2017 Haut Brisson is endowed with tremendous depth and plushness. The blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, clove, gravel, licorice and new oak flavors speak with authority. Bold, ripe and texturally intense, with tons of plushness, Haut Brisson shows the more flamboyant side of Saint-Émilion off to great effect. Hail wiped out a considerable amount of the château's vineyards on the plains, so the wine was only made from the parcels on the plateau. In 2017, Haut-Brisson is impressive. Tasted four times.“

91/100 Wine Cellar Insider

"With a good depth of color, the wine is round, the textures are soft, the fruit has ripeness and in the finish you'll find sweet cherries, licorice and freshness at its core. The wine was produced from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc."

89-91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"The tentative blend of the 2017 Haut Brisson is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color, it has a decadent nose of crème de cassis, baked blackberries and black forest cake with hints of licorice, tapenade and roses. The palate is big, rich, full-bodied and full-on ripe with tons of black fruit preserves, spice and savory layers supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long."
