Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.
What The Critics Say
92-94/100 Vinous, Neil Martin
"The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru comes from a single hectare of vines. It has a crisp, precise bouquet, with delicate violet petals scents filtering through the black cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is very well balanced, offering lithe tannin, satin-like in texture and a harmonious, effervescent finish, where blood orange suffuses the blue fruit. Irresistible." Drink 2021 - 2040
17+/20 JancisRobinson.com, Richard Hemming
"Raspberry, violet, dried spice and lots of classic concentration. Semi-firm tannin and full concentration with all the weight of Nuits-St-Georges. (RH)." Drink 2021 - 2037
91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, William Kelley
"Attractive aromas of raspberries and cherries mingling with nuances of blood orange, grilled squab and dark chocolate introduce the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles, a wine that's showing substantially better than it did from barrel in December. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, showing good depth and dimension at the core, fine but chalky structuring tannins and good length on the finish." Drink 2020 - 2037
