Astrolabe was created in 1996 by winemaker Simon Waghorn, the culmination of a career that began in South Australia in 1982. Winemaking later led Simon and his family from Te Kauwhata to Gisborne, where he specialised in Chardonnay, and eventually to Marlborough where in 1996 he and his wife Jane Forrest-Waghorn joined with old friends Paul Davenport and Sally Lewis to have a go at their own label…and so began Astrolabe. Today they work with a number of growers scattered all over Marlborough, from Awatere valley to the Kekerengu coast to the Wairau Valley, developing a wide portfolio of iconic wines that celebrate the varieties and terroirs of Marlborough.

“Vibrant, intense and effusive, showing aromas of honeysuckle, lemon verbena and makrut lime that mingle with ruby grapefruit and tangerine notes. e acidity is forward and lip-smacking. Drink now. 20,000 cases made."
4.5 Stars Michael Cooper
"The 2017 vintage (4.5*) - the first not to be labelled 'Province Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - is a regional blend, grown in the Awatere Valley (51 per cent), Wairau Valley (30 per cent) and at Kekerengu (19 per cent). Made in a fully dry style (1.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), it is mouthfilling, finely balanced and clearly herbaceous, with strong, vibrant melon, green capsicum and lime flavours, a slightly salty streak, and a crisp, long finish."
