Ashwood Estate is the result of good friends Murray McPhail and Nick Nobilo. Murray had been growing grapes on his land for 17 years on the Poverty Bay flats when Nick helped him to create the Ashwood Estate Pinot Gris. At Ashwood, they have embraced the romance of traditional winemaking techniques. For instance, none of the vineyards are irrigated which allows them to reflect the characteristic of each season within the vintage. All of the wines are fermented only in wood, no stainless steel. This provides the soft texture on the palate which is a hallmark characteristic of our wine.
