Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on 2017 vintage
"With vibrant summer fruit, aromas of watermelon, strawberry and raspberries this wine is instantly appealing. The palate has added hints of pink marshmallow with a refreshingly dry finish."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW (2016 vintage)
"Dry, spicy rosé with cherry, strawberry and raspberry flavours. Attractive wine in a bright, fresh, high energy style. 12/12/2016."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 vintage)
"Estate-grown in the Cromwell Basin and fermented in tanks (mostly) and barrels, the highly attractive 2016 vintage (4*) is bright pink, with strong, vibrant strawberry and spice flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity. Made in a basically dry style (4.6 grams/litre of residual sugar), it's a good food wine."
