65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah
For the last 15 years, oenologist Xavier Vignon has become internationally known for being the winemaker of several of the best domaines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Rhone, such as Le Nerthe, Marcoux and Grand Veneur. In 2002 some friends (who are wine importers) asked him if he can create his own wine. Choosing amongst the best wines he has made, he creates Rhône wines of different vintages and appellations. His ideal wine is easy to understand, modern, powerful and great value for money. Before settling up in Rhône Valley, Xavier worked as a winemaker in Alsace, Champagne (Moët & Chandon), Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Burgundy and Languedoc-Roussillon.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski
"The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, aged in a mix of concrete and wood vessels. Ripe stone fruit, raspberries and cherries cascade across the palate, framed by creamy-supple tannins and mouthwatering acids. While approachable now, there's enough structure to warrant cellaring for up to a decade. Tasted twice, with consistent notes." Drink 2018 - 2028
91/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
"Glistening violet. Deeply perfumed dark fruit liqueur, incense and allspice scents show impressive clarity and pick up a smoky mineral element with air. Sappy, appealingly sweet and concentrated, offering spice-laced black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors and a hint of cured meat. Closes on a repeating mineral note, displaying sharp focus, chewy tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence." Drink 2019 - 2031
16.5+/20 JancisRobinson.com, Richard Hemming
"Toasty aromas plus cooked black fruits. Lovely lifted floral aroma on the palate, bold fruit flavours on the mid palate and a light herby character lingering on the finish. Good stuff! This is boldly flavoured but not too heavy, with nuance and delicacy. (RH)." Drink 2018 - 2034
