The establishment of Sandalford Wines in 1840 coincided with both the first European settlement at the Colony of Perth and birth of Western Australia's world famous wine industry. In 1970, the Company was one of three initial pioneers of the Margaret River wine region (275km south of Perth and today considered by many as one of the world's truly great premium wine growing appellations) when the first vines were planted at its 300 hectare vineyard located there.
What The Critics Say
90/100 James Halliday
"Machine-harvested at night, 7% viognier crushed with the shiraz and co-fermented, cultured yeast, 14 days on skins, matured for 3 months on (not on, not in, suggesting the use of staves) 20% new French oak. It's a powerful wine, needing time to slow down its full gallop." Drink by 2026
Winemaker notes on current 2016 vintage
"Vibrant ruby red. This wine has spice – star anise and vanilla, combine with blueberries and mulberries and a definite floral note. This wine opens with an abundance of sweet berry fruits. Underneath is a complex mix of spice and mocha. French oak adds vanilla to the mix. Velvety smooth tannins lead to a gentle and lingering finish. Medium term cellaring will only add to the complexity of this wine."

"Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.” "Sandalford is one of Australia's oldest and privately owned wineries.
