A gorgeously rich but refined Grenache from boutique legends, Noon. Every year since 2003 Robert Parker has given this wine 94+ points, and with good reason. Grapes from 80 year old vines are hand picked, fermented in small open vats and then basket pressed for extra gentle extraction. Balancing voluptuous drinkability with rare artisan ethic, this is the real thing. These wines sell so don't wait!

Grenache, Shiraz and Graciano

Its Origins

The Noon family’s winemaking on their McLaren Vale property had been local and slightly under the radar. But when the property went up for sale, son Drew Noon MW returned from winemaking work at Tyrrells and Cassegrain, and then as a jobbing winemaker in Victoria, to take over the reigns. Combining the simplicity and artisan directness of his father’s basket-press approach with his newfound skills in crafting wine to the highest market standards, Drew’s work ethic heavily overcompensated for what they lacked in backing. With continuing access to old vines in Langhorne Creek’s highly favourable climate, Noon wines soon won the attention of Robert Parker and international acclaim was to follow. While remaining full-bodied, hedonistic reds of the old school tradition, Noon wines’ combination of extreme approachability with distinctive authenticity and character has ensured them an enduring position at the premium level of Australian winemaking.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on the 2016 vintage

"2016 has produced an excellent Eclipse. The Grenache, Shiraz and Graciano crops on our McLaren Vale vineyards were down on average due to the very dry season, with small berries being the norm. The resulting wine is perfumed and packed with flavour, full bodied but with a lovely natural balance."

97/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown (2013 vintage)

Medium garnet/purple, the 2013 Eclipse Proprietary Red McLaren Vale/Langhorne Creek is scented of cherry coulis, raspberry pie and red currant jelly with nuances of cinnamon stick, toast, mandarin peel, potpourri and white pepper. Full-bodied, very elegant and packed with red berry, spice and earthy layers, the tannins are velvety and the acidity provides plenty of freshness, especially on the long finish.

92/100 vinous, Josh Raynolds (2012 vintage)

"(88% grenache, 9% shiraz and 3% graciano): Opaque ruby. Assertively perfumed scents of raspberry liqueur, cherry pit, licorice and woodsmoke, with a subtle hint of white pepper adding lift. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors that put on weight with air. The broad, smoky finish shows resonating spiciness, supple tannins and a whiplash of sweet dark berry fruit."
