What The Critics Say
16/20 JancisRobinson.com (2015 vintage)
"Deep inky crimson with purple rim. Pure bright and dark red and bramble fruit. Juicy and full of pure fruit with lively freshness and lovely harmony, already soft on the tannins. Label created for the UK's House of Townend. Elderberry sour freshness on the finish. Pure and dark and a fine dark savoury finish. For this wine they selected the fruit from their vineyards that produces softer wines. 50-60% aged in old oak. (JH)."
90/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer (2015 vintage)
"Bright red-ruby. Blackberry and violet scents are accented by stony minerality. A sweet, pliant fruit bomb on the palate; surprisingly fleshy and broad but with lovely inner-mouth floral lift. An element of smoky minerality contributes complexity to the berry and plum fruit. Finishes with seamless tannins and excellent length. Quite substantial for this entry-level wine. (14.5% alcohol; from very old vines on stony soil close to the river; 50% done in tank)."
