A nice discount on this super-value Martinborough red. The Winery has been sold and the name will be changed hence the stock is being sold off. The Julicher 99 Rows once again flows with the all ripe berry fruit and savoury layers of a great Martinborough Pinot Noir. We've sold this wine for years and it just keeps over-delivering. Every penny of this price goes to great artisan winemaking, not marketing exercises, and the results are in the glass. Buy up!

Its Origins

Julicher Estate Vineyard is in the south-east corner of the North Island region of Wairarapa. Situated in the Te Muna valley, five kilometres from the Martinborough Township, the vineyard is part of a region which is internationally recognised as a producer of excellent Pinot Noir. Approximately one hours drive from the capital city of Wellington the area is known for low rainfall, hot summers and warm days which provide the right balance for producing top quality Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of different Pinot Noir clones sourced from different blocks in Te Muna Road and a vineyard in Martinborough Terraces.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Sam Kim

"Combining lovely fruit sweetness with seductive savoury nuances, the wine shows spiced cherry, plum, dark spice, game and mushroom characters on the nose, leading to a juicy palate that is supple and fleshy. Elegant yet flavoursome with lovely complexity, beautifully wrapped in polished tannins. $32.00. www.julicher.co.nz. April 2019."

92/100 Cameron Douglas MS

“Plums and old roses, strawberry and dusty back country road aromas. The bouquet reveals an integrated and balanced wine with just enough bottle age and complexity to easily entice a taste. On the palate - balanced with fine tannins and still plentiful acidity, flavours of red berries - some fresh, some dried. Dusty chalky tannin texture, dried leaves and brown baking spices. Overall a nice wine, varietal and ready, moderate complexity and decent finish. Drink now and through 2022.” Drink 2020 - 2022

4.5 Stars The wine Writer, Angie Atkinson

"A blend of seven Pinot Noir clones from different vineyard blocks on Te Muna Road. Handpicked, 100% destemmed and fermented after a 4-5 day cold soak, plunged three times daily and aged for 10 months in oak barrels of which 20% were new. Pale ruby in colour with a hint of age creeping in with a tawny hue on the edge. Extremely fragrant, red cherry, cranberry, wild herbs, and earthy crunchy leaves with underlying mushroom on the nose. A medium bodied, complex wine with flavours of juicy red and dark cherry, red plum, and savoury forest floor. Linear acidity, dusty tannins, and oak derived spices linger on the palate."
