A superb premium Chardonnay from Southern Burgundy's Pouilly-Fuisse. The Tournant de Pouilly comes from an east-facing slope of 60 year old vines growing in deep soils of limestone silt and clay. As a top expression of these experts in Pouilly (rated Hors Classe, basically a Grand Cru) this is a deeply complex expression of the rich fruit, fresh minerality and classy oak for which this appellation is beloved. So elegant yet so opulent, the Tournant is a definitive expression of the Ferret style. They suggest 10-15 years in cellar, but it drinks so beautifully now...

Its Origins

Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.

What The Critics Say

90-92/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Bright yellow. In a somewhat riper style than the Ménétrières, with its lemon drop and spicy, vanillin oak aromas accompanied by yellow stone fruits. Very ripe and smooth on the palate; bigger than the Ménétrières but without quite that wine's definition, complexity or class. Finishes lightly saline, dry and long, with very good lift. I suspect that this wine will need a year or two in bottle to absorb some of its oak and really come alive. (13.8% alcohol; 25% new oak; this was the last Fuissé vineyard that Domaine Ferret harvested in 2016)."

16.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Julia Harding

"Cask sample. This smells riper than the Clos des Prouges. Some oak sweetness as well as ripe lemon. Smells generous as well as fresh. Chewy, fresh and chalky on the palate. Acidity well integrated here though still prominent. Deep and long with pear flavours and texture on the finish. (JH)." Drink 2020 - 2026
