A rich and complex Chardonnay from the top range of Domaine Ferret. The Clos Des Prouges vineyard is near the heart of the village of Fuisse, where clay and chalk soils provide beautiful minerality and aromatic detail. The style too is heartland Pouilly Fuisse: freshness and verve underlie a richness so opulent it competes with the great wines of the Cotes de Beaune. In fact it exceeds many in sheer deliciousness -- especially drinking younger -- as seems natural from this warmer climate in south Burgundy, where the simple name of a famous vineyard takes the place of designations like Premier or Grand Cru. This range is a staff favourite and offers exceptional pleasure without too long a wait.

Its Origins

Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.

What The Critics Say

91-92 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"(just 30 hectoliters per hectare produced due to some hail, but Perrières was hit worse, yielding just 20 hectoliters per hectare): Aromas of lemon and soft citrus fruits lifted by spices. A distinctly riper, fuller-bodied wine whose broad shoulders no doubt are partly due to the marl-rich soil. Seriously rich wine but with nicely integrated acidity framing the soft citrus flavors. The largest-scaled and longest 2016 to this point, and also impeccably balanced. Winemaker Audrey Braccini plans to bottle her top five Pouilly-Fuissés between January and March of 2018."

JancisRobinson.com, Julia Harding

"Cask sample. Definite leesy aroma – mealy fresh pears – more than fruit but the fresh citrus fruit shines through on the palate. Bright, fresh and persistent. Better balance at this early stage than on the Chablis wines, which need more time. (JH)." Drink 2019 - 2025
