We managed to buy a small allocation of this rare regional white from Italy. There may be no other chance to try it, so grab this if you're a Europhile. A very distinctive local wine, it is plump and stonefruity but notably mineral too, broad yet with that poise and freshness no Italian white would be seen without. Delicious and from a superb producer -- stocks are highly limited.

Its Origins

After working with Marcarini in La Morra, Elvio Cogno returned to his family village in 1990 to rebuild an historical farm into the home of one of Piedmont's more important Barolo producers. Now daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore are the force behind the rising fortunes of the house, producing strictly classic wines with modern cleanliness and technique, low yields and sustainable, closely managed vineyards.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

"This is an irresistible white wine that offers a much-needed break from intense Barolo tasting. The 2016 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta is a fresh and citrus-driven wine with crisp acidity and tonic layers of white peach, garden herb and blanched almond. The wine boasts a very strong mineral vein that comes forward with almost-salty intensity. This wine did malolactic fermentation until the 2010 vintage, but is now completed without that extra step." 91/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni (2015 vintage)

"The 2015 Anas-Cëtta a rare Piedmontese white with real pedigree and complexity. Dried peach, herb, almond, sage, honey and chamomile open up in a surprisingly large-scaled, ample white. Intense smoke and graphite notes wrap around the creamy, generous finish. There is no shortage of complexity and nuance, that is for sure. In 2015, the Anas-Cëtta is a surprisingly big wine, and yet it is also impeccable in its balance."

17/20 JancisRobinson.com (2015 vintage)

"Ripe green apple with loads of apricot on the palate - really lovely definition here. It isn't oily like Viognier, though, and has a smart, zippy freshness to it. Loads of flavour, loads of purity. Reminds me a bit of great Torrontés. (RH)."
