Craggy score highly yet again with this delicious Martinborough Pinot. With earthy bramble fruits in a ripe and aromatic form, this a poised yet complete wine focused on that floral and savoury stuff Pinot does so well. It is lovely now with food, but even better if you put another five bottles aside to drink at your chosen intervals. Stunning.

Its Origins

Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.

What The Critics Say

5 Stars Michael Cooper

"The impressive 2016 vintage (5*) was estate-grown, hand-picked and matured for nine months in French oak barriques (23 per cent new). Forward in its appeal, it is deep ruby, mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with concentrated, plummy, spicy, nutty flavours, fine-grained tannins, and excellent complexity and harmony. Drink now or cellar."

96/100 Bob Campbell MW (2015 vintage)

"Absolutely delicious pinot noir, with lifted red and black berry fruits together with an appealing floral and rose petal influence. A concentrated but supple wine in a high energy style and with an appealingly smooth texture. Quite complex with a lengthy finish. 5/2/2017."
