80% Merlot and 20% Syrah
Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on current 2016 vintage
"Pale salmon with a copper rim. Subtle aromatics of nougat, mandarin and fresh peach. Elegant on the palate with softly textured red berries flowing towards a long salivating finish. Consume as apéritif or with lightly salted fish. Recommended cellaring of 1- 3 years from vintage."
92/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Made from a blend of Merlot and Syrah grapes, which were pressed and the juice was fermented on old French oak barrels. Plum jam and raspberry flavours, with a hint of fresh herbs. Nicely balanced wine with a drying finish 7/12/2015."
