Deliciously expressive wine from a leading producer in the up and coming Bordeaux zone of Lalande-de-Pomerol, the La Fleur Boüard is serious stuff. Merlot is supported by Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, giving a depth and exotic spice to this otherwise bright and red-fruited, juicy and outgoing wine. One of the most highly regarded offerings from this region neighbouring Pomerol, this is an estate to watch.

80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

Its Origins

Château La Fleur de Boüard was begun by the de Boüard family in 1998. Benefitting from the inventive know-how of Hubert, Coralie and Matthieu de Boüard, supported by their technical director Philippe Nunes, Château La Fleur de Boüard has flourished and become the flagship of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. Blended with 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from each individual plot is vinified separately using gravity alone in small truncated cone-shaped tanks. The wine is then aged in oak for 18 to 24 months in barrels, of which 75% are new.

What The Critics Say

90-93/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is the best wine I have tasted from Hubert de Boüard's Lalande de Pomerol estate. Pliant, creamy and expansive - with notable depth - the 2016 is super-impressive. Raspberry jam, mocha, exotic spice and French oak all meld together. More importantly, though, the 2016 comes across as less heavy and extracted than in the past, with sweet tannins and terrific balance. Today, it is superb. Tasted two times."

90-92/100 Wine Cellar Insider

"Sensuous with a candied, dark cherry core of fruit, this medium/full-bodied wine has a fresh, red berry, dark cocoa, cigar wrapper and thyme filled finish. Produced from a blend of 85% Merlot , 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon , the wine is 14.5% alcohol."

16.5/20 Jancis Robinson MW

"Very dark crimson. Bit of sandpaper on the nose. Very rich and sweet. Almost over the top but there is freshness at the end. This is a strong statement! Drying and rather cool on the end." Drink 2023 - 2030
